Health-related or environmental concerns convert many people to veganism, but for Armstrong the most forcing reason is to end the animal suffering he believes is an unavoidable outcome of the meat and dairy industries&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201c\u2018I need to eat animals to be healthy\u2019 is easily refuted because eating animals is killing us through heart disease,\u201d says the Australian animal rights activist, known online as Joey Carbstrong. \u201c\u2018It tastes good\u2019 isn\u2019t justification for anything immoral; neither is tradition&#8221;&#8230; He says, \u201cI hear, \u2018Where I buy my meat they\u2019re killed humanely\u2019, but you can\u2019t kill anyone humanely. Humane means to show compassion. You can\u2019t take away someone\u2019s greatest gift in a humane way&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The campaigner feels strongly about what he sees as the responsibility of all vegans to be active participants in furthering the movement. \u201cWhen you become a vegan, you\u2019re realising you\u2019ve been causing harm to innocent beings and you\u2019ve tried your best as far as practical to stop causing harm. But that is a neutral position; it doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re doing something fantastic, it just means you\u2019ve stopped doing something horrific or contributing to something that\u2019s horrific&#8221;&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>He continues: \u201cYou also know about this horrific thing that\u2019s happening and if you stand by and watch, that\u2019s akin to standing by and watching someone abuse their wife and not saying anything. If you didn\u2019t intervene, then you become complicit.
