The lamb deaths and the deaths of three hogs that died from dehydration, also this spring, were the latest in a series of animal deaths at NDSU, which last year included the deaths of 22 bats that were kept for research. The spate of animal deaths resulted in three critical citations and five non-critical citations against NDSU in less than a year, according to Stop Animal Exploitation NOW!, the group that filed the complaints, which issued a statement about the latest deaths Monday, July 16.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cSince NDSU has clearly demonstrated negligence which led to dozens of animal deaths, I must insist that you take the most severe action allowable under the Animal Welfare Act&#8221;&#8230; Michael Budkie, executive director of Stop Animal Exploitation NOW!\u201d wrote in a letter to a USDA official&#8230; People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals also criticized NDSU\u2019s record of research animal death and called for taxpayer refunds, if applicable&#8230; \u201cPETA is calling on the&#8230; National Institutes of Health to investigate and determine whether any of the animal deaths at NDSU occurred in connection with taxpayer-supported projects,\u201d Kathy Guillermo, PETA\u2019s senior vice president of laboratory investigations, said in a statement&#8217;.<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wday.com\/news\/education\/4473324-11-crushed-lambs-3-dehydrated-pigs-research-animal-deaths-ndsu-prompt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>SOURCE&#8230;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED VIDEO:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zXUKxHGxD-E?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PATRICK SPRINGER: &#8216;Eleven lambs died when they were packed into a holding pen this spring at North Dakota State University in a manner that they were \u201cessentially crushed to death,\u201d according to animal rights advocates.
