{"id":753946,"date":"2018-07-21T08:36:45","date_gmt":"2018-07-21T12:36:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/arkcenter.us\/?p=753946"},"modified":"2018-07-21T08:36:45","modified_gmt":"2018-07-21T12:36:45","slug":"sea-turtles-offer-dire-warning-of-oceans-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/animalrightswatch.us\/?p=753946","title":{"rendered":"Sea turtles offer dire warning of oceans\u2019 crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<blockquote  class=\"bs-quote bs-quote-1 bsq-t1 bsq-s1 bsq-left\">\n\t\t<div class=\"quote-content\">\n\t\t\t<p>We\u2019re talking about animals that spend much of their lives in the wildest, most distant and uninhabited parts of the ocean, yet they still ingest and swim through plastic out there.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>DAHR JAMAIL:<\/strong> <em>&#8216;Wallace Nichols, a marine biologist who has been studying sea turtles and plastic pollution in the oceans for nearly 25 years, is worried&#8230; Nichols, who is also a senior fellow at the Center for the Blue Economy and author of &#8220;Blue Mind,&#8221; says he used to try to estimate how many sea turtles were impacted by plastic pollution, but now the answer to him is simple: \u201cAll of them, 100 percent,\u201d he said. \u201cBut that number should be \u2018none of them,\u2019 zero percent.\u201d Nichols believes sea turtles have become the poster species for what he calls the \u201crunaway carbon economy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019re talking about animals that spend much of their lives in the wildest, most distant and uninhabited parts of the ocean, yet they still ingest and swim through plastic out there,\u201d he said. \u201cThen nesting beaches and even the sex ratios of baby sea turtles are impacted by climate change, and their feeding and nursery areas are being transformed.
