Rallies have been planned in more than 40 cities across the globe this year.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>JAMES HOCKADAY:<\/strong> <em>&#8216;Thousands of animal rights campaigners marched through London demanding an end to the exploitation of animals. Around 12,000 activists were pictured holding placards saying \u2018meat is murder\u2019 and \u2018think with your heart, not your stomach\u2019. The number of people attending the march from Hyde Park to Parliament Square has skyrocketed since it was first held in 2016. Around 10,000 people marched through London last year, compared to 2,500 at the event\u2019s debut.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Rallies have been planned in more than 40 cities across the globe this year. The event is organised by vegan activist collective Surge and volunteer movement Animal Rebellion, which uses non-violent civil disobedience tactics to make their voices heard. Animal Rebellion is planning a two-week blockade of Smithfield Market \u2013 the UK\u2019s largest wholesale meat market from October 7. The new group is hoping to get 10,000 people to take part, with around 2,000 signing up so far.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>As well as taking a stand against animal cruelty, the group also wants to persuade people that ditching animal products can help prevent climate change.
