The company vowed to focus on orca education instead of spectacle&#8230; Chief zoological officer for SeaWorld, Chris Dold said in a statement issued this week. \u201cThis educational presentation reflects our company\u2019s mission to inspire people and protect the animals and wild wonders of our world through education, research, animal rescue, and conservation\u201d&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>SeaWorld has faced intense scrutiny in recent years following the 2012 book \u201cDeath at SeaWorld: Shamu and the Dark Side of Killer Whales in Captivity,\u201d written by journalist David Kirby. The book documented the mistreatment of whales forced to perform in inhumane acts at SeaWorld theme parks. The critically acclaimed documentary, \u201cBlackfish,\u201d followed in 2013.
