All nine were arrested without incident on suspicion of unlawful assembly and trespassing.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>ROSALIO AHUMADA:<\/strong> <em>A group of animal rights activists on Wednesday locked themselves together outside the front gates of California Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s home in Fair Oaks as part of a protest aimed at stopping the expansion of \u201cfactory farms&#8221;&#8230; Approximately 60 other individuals protested in the neighborhood but did not cause a disruption&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>A few dozen demonstrators from the animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere gathered outside Newsom\u2019s home. Others drove a truck hauling a trailer filled with burnt wood debris collected at a California wildfire site. The demonstrators lifted the trailer and dumped the wildfire debris on the street outside the home\u2019s front gates, according to a news release from the group&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>As California Highway Patrol officers worked to free the demonstrators from the makeshift handcuffs&#8230; all nine demonstrators refused to leave and were arrested without incident on suspicion of unlawful assembly, failing to disperse after a warning, and trespassing and failing to leave. the rest of the demonstrators stood about a block away chanting \u201cNo More Factory Farms\u201d and holding up protest placards&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019re here outside Gov. Newsom\u2019s house today to demand that he enact a moratorium on the expansion of factory farms and slaughterhouses,\u201d said Samantha Eachus, a spokeswoman for the animal rights group. \u201cThey are literally chained together in front of his house, demanding his attention to this issue&#8221;&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District were at the scene. By noon Wednesday, authorities were still using what appeared to be a power saw to cut the makeshift handcuffs off the protesters. A few dozen protesters remained down the street, chanting messages on a bullhorn in the direction of the detained protesters&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The protest outside the governor\u2019s home was part of a campaign that included a demonstration Tuesday outside a Foster Farms facility in Merced County. The activists used a U-Haul truck to block the main entrance of the Foster Farms plant in Livingston, Some activists chained themselves together on top of the truck as others lined up on the ground, the Merced Sun-Star reported.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>According to the group\u2019s Facebook page, former Baywatch actress Alexandra Paul and another activist pulled two chickens from cages on one of the trucks entering the plant.
