The influential book 'Animal Liberation' has made many practices less cruel, violent, and frightening for animals by exposing and ending disgusting abuse in laboratories, on farms, at roadside zoos, and in other industries that exploit animals. However, the widespread animal suffering that Singer laid bare decades ago persists.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\n

PETA:<\/strong> Almost 50 years after the publication of Peter Singer\u2019s Animal Liberation \u2014 the groundbreaking work that challenged the way humans view and treat our fellow animals and forever shifted the animal rights conversation \u2014 readers will have the opportunity to revisit the iconic book. On May 23, Singer will unveil Animal Liberation Now, an updated version of his 1975 classic, in a multi-city series of events.<\/em><\/p>\n

Widely considered a founding philosophical work of the animal rights movement, Animal Liberation remains as relevant as ever. It introduced countless readers to their biases against other animals in the form of \u201cspeciesism\u201d \u2014 a human-supremacist worldview that fuels the ongoing abuse and exploitation of our fellow animals.<\/em><\/p>\n

Singer argued that all sentient beings, regardless of their capabilities or differences, deserve equal consideration\u2014or more specifically, freedom from suffering. PETA was founded as a result of Animal Liberation\u2019s publication. While our work has made many practices less cruel, violent, and frightening for animals \u2014 by exposing and ending disgusting abuse in laboratories, on farms, at roadside zoos, and in other industries that exploit animals \u2014 the widespread animal suffering that Singer laid bare decades ago persists.<\/em><\/p>\n

Laboratories, flush with government funds, still torment and kill monkeys, dogs, cats, mice, rats, and other animals in painful tests. The meat, egg, and dairy industries abuse and kill billions of animals every year in vile ways. Roadside zoos confine animals to tiny, inhumane cages, leaving them to pace endlessly. Circuses train animals\u2014with force and through fear\u2014to perform confusing and even painful tricks. Dogs languish outside on chains during the winter. Deadly poisons are administered to species considered inconvenient \u201cpests.\u201d And so much more.
