The Oregon’s ballot measure, Initiative Petition 28, has garnered 120,000 signatures, more than the roughly 117,000 it needs to go to vote in November, 2026. Along with banning hunting and fishing, the legislation would also prohibit slaughtering livestock and using animals in rodeos and for scientific research. It would also prohibit operating a commercial poultry business and castrating or neutering livestock, among other practices.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

NEW YORK POST:<\/strong> A new \u201canimal cruelty\u201d ballot proposal would put hunters and fishermen on the hook. Controversial legislation that would outlaw killing or \u201cinjuring\u201d any animal \u2014 even while shooting or catching your dinner \u2014 is one step closer to landing on the ballot in Oregon…<\/em><\/p>\n

The measure, Initiative Petition 28, officially titled the PEACE Act<\/a> (People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions), has garnered 120,000 signatures, more than the roughly 117,000 it needs to go to vote in November, 2026.<\/em><\/p>\n

Along with banning hunting and fishing, the legislation would also prohibit slaughtering livestock and using animals in rodeos and for scientific research.<\/em><\/p>\n

It would also prohibit operating a commercial poultry business and castrating or neutering livestock, among other practices… Farmers, meanwhile, said the bill would hurt local ranchers and be a shot to the state\u2019s economy…<\/em><\/p>\n

The initiative, which has failed to make it onto the ballot in the past, aims to push the state towards more plant-based food…<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe want people to actually recognize that is a choice that we could make to shift away from killing animals, to treat all those other animals the same way we treat our companion animals,\u201d David Michelson, leader of the campaign…<\/em><\/p>\n
