It\u2019s okay to hate social media, and the culture around it, but it would be foolish to completely dismiss it. It can be a powerful tool for creating more vegans and plant-based eaters, and influence more people to be kinder to animals.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>TRACY.3<\/strong>: It\u2019s happened again. Another popular content creator has made a \u201cWhy I\u2019m No Longer Vegan\u201d video. This time, it\u2019s Mommy Tang, who now goes by Love Soo on social media&#8230; is a Korean content creator with over 582k subscribers on her main YouTube channel, 123k on Instagram, and 253k on TikTok&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Recently, Mommy Tang made a video titled \u201cWhy I\u2019m No Longer VEGAN (After 14 Years)\u201d where she basically said that the reason she stopped going vegan was because she\u2019s on a fitness journey and wants to eat a high-protein diet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Despite being capable of making a variety of delicious, high-protein vegan dishes, she claims she doesn\u2019t like any vegan protein sources, like tofu and tempeh, and feels like a vegan diet is too restrictive. She also said she went vegan to lose weight, so in fact she was plant-based and has been mislabeling herself for 14 years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>She then went on to post a very disgusting and disturbing short video where she ate a dead cow while crying and has been putting out a series of cringe-inducing clickbait videos with titles like \u201c14 years Vegan, First Time eating\u201d&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Now, before you say, \u201cWho cares? I\u2019ve never heard of her. I don\u2019t follow any influencers. We need to stop putting content creators on pedestals,\u201d etc., it\u2019s important to recognize that the word \u201cinfluencer,\u201d as cringe-inducing a term as it is, exists for a reason.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Popular content creators can have a huge influence on pop culture, public discourse, and even world politics. It can change the public\u2019s perception of certain topics and normalize ideas and values that weren\u2019t popular before. This can be both good and bad.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>You\u2019re completely justified in scoffing at influencers and the people who worship them, but there\u2019s no denying how important they are in our culture&#8230; As annoying as influencer culture is, it continues to help normalize veganism, teach non-vegans about animal rights issues, and influence people to become either vegan or plant-based&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>If Big Ag, and hateful political factions, are using content creators and social media to attack our movement, shouldn\u2019t we fight back by creating more vegan content and supporting vegan creators?&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>A 2024 study from Faunalytics shows that apps like Instagram are \u201ccapable of shaping users\u2019 eating decisions&#8221;&#8230; Creating social media content shouldn\u2019t be every single vegan\u2019s main form of activism,&#8230; but vegan influencers do have an important role in helping create a vegan future&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>It\u2019s okay to hate social media, and the culture around it, but it would be foolish to completely dismiss it.
