The documentary ‘Free Luna’ follows animal activist Michelle during her three-week, 24\/7 protest inside a farrowing cage outside the National Gallery in London, highlighting the conditions endured by pigs such as Luna. Filmed during both the day and night, the documentary captures the atmosphere and ambience around Trafalgar Square, what Michelle had to enjoy and endure throughout the protest, and the many people who stop to speak with and support her. Luna remains confined in a shed at the farm.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

ANIMAL RISING:<\/strong> Luna is a young mother pig living on a British farm. She has already given birth to two litters of piglets. Earlier this year, hidden cameras followed Luna as she gave birth for a second time inside a farrowing crate on a British factory farm. Animal Rising activist Michelle later visited the farm and met Luna herself. Luna gave birth behind bars and nursed her piglets through the bars of the crate, denied the freedom to move or care for them naturally. Luna\u2019s story is not an isolated one. The conditions she lives in are part of the reality of factory farming across the UK.<\/em><\/p>\n

This documentary follows animal activist Michelle during her three-week, 24\/7 protest inside a farrowing cage outside the National Gallery in London, highlighting the conditions endured by pigs such as Luna. Michelle explains in detail why she is taking part in the protest and what she hopes to achieve. Throughout the three weeks, she receives support from family, friends and volunteers, with people distributing leaflets, staying overnight and sleeping out through the night alongside her. Members of Animal Rising are also involved in supporting the protest. Animal Rights activist Chris Packham and his daughter also made an appearance to support her which I just missed.<\/em><\/p>\n

The documentary offers a look at Michelle’s experience, the people supporting her and the wider message behind her protest against the treatment of pigs and other animals. The leaflet being distributed reads: “Michelle has spent years investigating factory farming and exposing what animals experience inside UK farms. Now she has spent three weeks inside a farrowing crate in Trafalgar Square to show the world what mother pigs are forced to endure”…<\/em><\/p>\n

Michelle can leave her crate for good after three weeks. Luna can’t. Luna remains confined in a shed at the farm. Unless she is freed, she will soon be forced back into a farrowing crate to give birth again. Factory farming is broken. It affects over a billion animals across the UK every year.
