British teachers arrested in Oman after trying to rescue abused dogs

Jenny and her friend had seen the dogs tied up all day in 95 degrees heat. Kids had also been throwing stones at them. Jenny adores dogs and couldn’t bear to do nothing.

PAUL SIMS: ‘Two British teachers have been arrested in Oman for trying to rescue a pair of dogs tied up in 95F heat. Jenny Green, 33, believed the animals were being mistreated and tried to free them. But she and an unnamed female pal were held for theft after the dogs’ furious owner called police in the Arab state. The pair have spent more than 12 days behind bars and are set to face court in the capital Muscat this weekend.

A source said: “Jenny and her friend had seen the dogs tied up all day. Kids had also been throwing stones at them”. “Jenny adores dogs and couldn’t bear to do nothing.” The owner stopped Jenny and her friend from leaving. The pair spent the night in cells and were released the next day as investigations continued. Earlier this month they were taken to a women’s detention centre where they have been ever since… Jenny, who works for the British Council, had travelled the world teaching languages since leaving Manchester University. She arrived in Oman last year and has adopted a rescue dog, Bandar.

Radha Stirling, of Detained in Dubai — based in the United Arab Emirates which borders Oman — said of the women: “They allegedly intervened to save abused animals, which is honourable in Britain but is a crime in Oman… A British Council spokeswoman said: “We cannot discuss the details of an ongoing case and await the outcome from the Omani authorities”.’  SOURCE…
