Animal rights protesters chain themselves in front of California state capitol, 19 arrested

The animal rights protesters are urging the California governor to issue an executive order that would ban construction of new factory farms and slaughterhouses.

CECILIO PADILLA: Authorities arrested 19 people after protesters for animal rights chained themselves to the California State Capitol building on Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol. About 20-30 activists from the group Direct Action Everywhere hopped the Capitol’s west side fence and ran to the west doors, the CHP said.

The group announced they would be holding a protest on Friday urging Gov. Gavin Newsom to issue an executive order that would ban construction of new factory farms and slaughterhouses. Several activists scaled the wall up to the top of State Capitol’s facade holding a banner with the lettering “Animal Bill of Rights.” Three of those activists chained themselves to the second story balcony doors, the CHP said.
