Monkey dressed up as blonde doll and cruelly chained to side of road in Indonesia

Topeng Monyet (Monkey’s Mask) is a form of entertainment that sees captive macaque forced to dress as human and perform stunts such as riding bicycles.

DAVE BURKE: ‘A horrifying video shows a chained-up monkey collecting money while dressed as a creepy blonde doll and wearing a suffocating mask. Animal lovers have voiced their outrage over the clip, which shows the monkey holding a bucket for drivers to drop cash into. It was filmed in Bogor, Indonesia, by a passing driver. The performing monkey can be seen wearing a pink tracksuit and chained by his neck to the side of the road. On his head, the monkey wears a giant female doll mask, which is complete with pony-tailed blonde hair and sunglasses…

The incident was part of a traditional street performance known as Topeng Monyet, translated as Monkey’s Mask… It’s a controversial form of entertainment that sees captive macaque forced to dress as human and perform stunts such as riding bicycles. They’re chained by their neck and videos online show them being yanked cruelly whilst performing for the public. Topeng Monyet was banned in Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta after a campaign in 2013.
