‘It’s the only love they’ll ever experience’: The animal rights group giving pigs water when they arrive at slaughterhouse

The vigils have been going since early 2017. Demonstrators claim police officers have been so touched by them that they've turned vegan themselves.

CONNOR BOYD: ‘An animal rights group is holding ‘vigils’ for passing trucks full of pigs headed for the slaughterhouse to offer them water and massages before they die. Every Wednesday and Sunday night around 100 people gather at the Farmer John pork processing plant in Vernon, California, to give the animals a loving send-off. Demonstrators push water bottles through grates on the side of the trucks and stick their hands through the holes to gently massage the 250lbs Yorkshire hogs. The activists line electric tea candles on the sidewalk and play soothing music through big speakers during their peaceful protests.

Ellen Dent, who leads the Wednesday night vigils for the Animal Alliance Network group, told the LA Times: ‘They’ve never experienced love. ‘They were raised in warehouses and probably didn’t even get nursed. That little bit of water we give them — that’s probably the only love they’ll ever experience’… The vigils, which have been going since early 2017, have attracted celebrities including Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara. Demonstrators claim police officers have been so touched by them that they’ve turned vegan themselves’. SOURCE…
