‘Pets’ and other animals rounded-up and slaughtered in China to stop spread of coronavirus

The World Health Organisation official statement: 'There is no evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the new coronavirus.’

Community officers in Sichuan Province are reportedly knocking on doors and ordering villagers to hand over their pets. Nanchong Missing Animal Aid Group claimed the animals were killed moments later on the street. A distressing image by the group posted on social media shows a number of bloodied animals lying in the back of a truck. Another clip by the group showed an officer wearing a face mask and touching a lifeless dog by the side of the road. Other pictures show workers hitting dogs with wooden rods…

Animal rights group PETA said: ‘Dogs in China are at risk of all sorts of horrors, from the country’s dog-meat and leather industries to the current coronavirus rumour. ‘Isn’t it just an excuse for people to abuse animals? ‘Violent acts like this don’t address the public health problem, but only cause more conflicts in society.’ Officials in the area have denied the allegations made by animal rights activists, saying the only animals killed had bit local residents’.  SOURCE…
