SEAN RAYMENT: Merelize Van Der Merwe, 32, was slammed on social media after The Mirror revealed the picture she shared of herself holding a giraffe’s heart… The couple had been planning a Valentine’s trip to the resort of Sun City when a pal called her to say a kill she coveted had been spotted in a game park.
“I’d waited years for my own perfect bull – the older a bull gets the darker he gets,” she said. “I love the skin and the fact it’s such an iconic animal for Africa… She plans to use her 17-year-old victim’s skin as a rug – and posted her pic with the comment: “Ever wondered how big a giraffe’s heart is? I’m over the moon with my Valentines present!!!”
Animal rights campaigners branded the hunter a “sociopath”, although she shot back at her critics by claiming she was actually protecting animals from extinction… In response to criticism from animal rights activists, the mum insisted that shooting the ageing bull giraffe helped save threatened species in South Africa – a claim dismissed by conservationists…
Van Der Merwe, who started hunting at five and has killed up to 500 animals including lions, leopards and elephants, says she posted the snap to taunt the animal rights lobby. “I have no respect for them – I call them the mafia,” she said before excitedly telling all about her dream day”…
A petition to ban Van Der Merwe from Facebook, where she has almost 100,000 followers, has since gathered more than 18,000 signatures. The petition states: “On her ‘public figure’ page, this monster shares images of the endangered species she massacres. Amongst them are giraffes, elephants and leopards.
“She also shares imagery and videos of herself covered in blood, of dead children and her and her fellow barbarians chopping up their victims… Why does Facebook, a supposed site with family values, allow this? Instead, they should do the decent thing: Ban her.” SOURCE…
