Badger cull outrage as shock figures reveal 19,000 killed this summer in the UK

STUART WINTER: ‘Shock figures revealing 19,000 badgers were culled this summer have led to claims the UK Government is like “Jekyll and Hyde on animal welfare”. Charities are outraged over the heavy death toll of one of the countryside’s most iconic creatures in the battle to wipe out the tuberculosis epidemic threatening cattle. The levels of badger slaughter have been revealed by Whitehall as ministers pledge to wipe out the bovine tuberculosis outbreak costing taxpayers £100million a year and which saw 29,000 cattle slaughtered in 2016…

Humane Society International, International Fund for Animal Welfare and the RSPCA are highly critical of the badger culling policy, warning it is inhumane and ineffective and also costly to farmers’ livelihoods.
