VICTORY: Judge’s ruling means Nosey free to live in elephant sanctuary

MICHAEL WETZEL: ‘Nosey is free to live in a Tennessee sanctuary, a judge ruled Monday. Lawrence County District Judge Angela Terry’s ruling states the county’s animal control officer, Kimberly Carpenter, has custody of the 35-year-old African elephant. “We were very excited and very relieved,” Carpenter said. “I will get with Callie (Waldrep, assistant district attorney) and the commissioners to discuss this. I’m positive Nosey will continue to live at (The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee)”…

The sanctuary’s website lauded Terry’s order Monday. “We are delighted by this progress toward the sanctuary becoming Nosey’s lifetime home,” the statement said. “A full statement will be released after the sanctuary’s legal team has finished reviewing the judge’s order.” After Terry issued her ruling about 9:30 a.m. Monday, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals issued a statement saying it was a victory for animal lovers worldwide’.
