California wildfires: 5 incredible stories of animal rescue and support

Culver City fire fighters tweeted: 'We not only protect human lives and property, but animals as well'.

ABBY AMBLIN: ‘In the midst of the great stress, danger and difficulty of many wildfires burning in California, first responders, community members and pet owners alike work together to keep their beloved animals alive and well. “Residents are often times left no choice but to leave their animals behind when wildfires strike,” Culver City fire figthers tweeted last week. “We not only protect human lives and property, but animals as well.”

As many as 17 wildfires have burned simultaneously across California this summer including the Mendocino Complex Fire in Colusa, Lake and Mendocino Counties — which is now the largest on record in state history — and the Carr fire in Shasta and Trinity Counties, which is sixth on the list of the most destructive fires in state history.
