UNTOLD CRUELTY: Lambs stamped on, thrown like dolls and slaughtered without being stunned in Spanish abattoir

The horrendous scenes were exposed by the Spanish animal welfare group Equalia that is fighting for legislation to make CCTV mandatory in the country’s slaughterhouses.

NATALIA PENZA: ‘These are the distressing moments where abattoir workers were filmed throwing lambs around like dolls and slaughtering them without being stunned in Spain. They were secretly filmed stamping on their heads before they are slaughtered. The appalling images also show some animals sent down conveyor belts of death without being stunned first.

The scenes were exposed by a Spanish welfare group fighting for legislation to make CCTV mandatory in the country’s slaughterhouses. Some appear to be so sick they have to be carried into pens before being slaughtered because they are unable to stand on their own four feet. The CCTV footage was secretly filmed at a slaughterhouse in Villarejo de Salvanes near Madrid over the past four months and published by NGO Equalia…

A spokesman for the NGO said: “The images speak for themselves; lambs are thrown, kicked and beaten and a worker repeatedly throws himself on them. “Several lambs are slaughtered without being stunned, even thought the stunner remains next to one of the operators. “The slaughterer disregards his duties and some lambs are not bled and are left hanging next to the rest of the dead animals. “One of them was left fully conscious for at least half an hour.

“The video also shows sheep that can’t stand up or are sick and are taken to the conveying belt to enter the bleeding zone. “One of them was filmed agonising the night before. Ten hours went by before it was taken to the slaughter area… A court in the Madrid suburb of Leganes is now understood to have launched an investigation after Equalia filed a formal complaint over the animal mistreatment’.  SOURCE…
