Just two days after HSUS registered its new name 'Humane World for Animals' with state agencies, PETA unveiled a parody of the Humane World logo emblazoned with 'Inhumane World for Animals', with 'Inhumane' appearing in blood red and all of the animals crying. 'Why is the Humane Society of the United States endorsing factory farms?' PETA demanded in an accompanying media release, denouncing the continuing HSUS participation in the Global Animal Partnership, a humane-washing scheme that has slapped ‘animal welfare certified' labels on meat, eggs, and dairy.
MERRITT CLIFTON: The cat is out of the Humane Society of the United States logo, along with the pit bull, the puma, the cow, the bighorn sheep, the greyhound, the seal, the pigeon, the monkey, the beaver, the bunny, the bottlenose dolphin, and the HSUS name itself. Of the menagerie introduced to the previously plain logo in 2007, only the goose, a whale, and a generic dog survive the near-wipeout of HSUS history, along with a mink and a pig.
Effective on February 14, 2025, Valentine’s Day, according to a letter sent to donors believed to have included the Humane Society of the U.S. in their estate planning, HSUS will be renamed Humane World for Animals, HSUS president Kitty Block announced. Humane Society International, the biggest HSUS subsidiary, will become Humane World for Animals International. The Humane Society Legislative Fund, the next biggest HSUS subsidiary, will become Humane World Action Fund…

“None of our program work will be changing because of our new brand,” Kitty Block pledged. “In fact, we think that our new name more aptly expresses our ultimate goals and better represents our work in protecting animals around the world”… “We have a new mission statement, Kitty Block added in her letter to potential legators: “Together, we tackle the root causes of animal cruelty and suffering to create permanent change”…
On October 31, 2024, just two days after HSUS registered the Humane World for Animals names with state agencies, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) unveiled a parody of the Humane World logo, more colorful than the black-and-white actual logo, emblazoned “Inhumane World for Animals,” with “Inhumane” appearing in blood red and all of the animals crying.
“Why is the Humane Society of the United States endorsing factory farms?” PETA demanded in an accompanying media release, denouncing the continuing HSUS participation in the Global Animal Partnership labeling scheme for animal products and byproducts…
PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman stated, “Touting ‘animal welfare standards’ while packing tens of thousands of animals into filthy sheds and then trucking them off to slaughter is a betrayal of animals and kind consumers. PETA is calling on the Humane Society of the United States to live up to its name and stop being apologists for animal abusers and factory farms by dropping its support of this bogus humane-washing scam now”…
Whether the name change to Humane World for Animals will help Kitty Block untie the tin cans remains to be seen… The message to Kitty Block amounts to a warning that bungling under a new name and logo is no more likely to be ignored, overlooked, and forgotten than are the scandals of the past.
