KEEGAN KUHN: ‘How to Make Drugs’ and feel great about everything, is a new feature documentary from Keegan Kuhn, co-producer/co-director of the hit films on Netflix; Cowspiracy and What The Health, with director Journey Zephyr (co-director of ‘Meat Me Halfway’), investigates the process of drug development in the US, uncovering the wasteful, dangerous and the often absurd use of animal testing in the 21st century.

“Animal testing is perhaps one of the most divisive issues in our society, with just over half of Americans polled being against it, but there is a story that isn’t being told about the cost of human life due to failed animal testing methods” said co-producer/co-writer Keegan Kuhn.

Through interviews with premier researchers, physicians, policy experts, lobbyists and activists, a story unravels of unchecked government spending, entrenched culture and faulty science costing taxpayers billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives each year. “Whether it’s a sick loved one, rampant animal cruelty, wasted tax dollars, erosion of civil liberties, or your own mental health, this film deals with important topics that affect us all.” Said director Journey Zephyr.

Featuring interviews with premier researchers, both for and against the use of animals in medicine, the film follows comedic documentary filmmaker Journey Zephyr – struggling with his own depression, Journey is considering taking antidepressants when he learns that some antidepressants are tested with a ridiculous and arcane method called the “forced swim test”, where rats are forced to swim after being given antidepressants to see if they will swim for longer. He begins to wonder if all drugs are tested this way. Journey sets off on a mission to learn everything he can about drug development, drug safety and overlooked advancements in medical research…and anti-terrorism laws? SOURCE…
