‘Seantience’ is an award-winning short documentary that delves into the sentience of aquatic animals. It features interviews with prominent scientists and philosophers, who present the most recent scientific evidence about the sentience of aquatic animals, including invertebrates.

ANIMAL SENTIENCE: ‘Seantience’ is an award-wiining documentary that explores the capacity to feel of aquatic animals. Produced by Animal Ethics and directed by Xiana Castro, which delves into the sentience of aquatic animals, this brilliant documentary highlights the issues within aquatic invertebrates in our society, what discoveries are being made, and what we should be doing better.

This powerful documentary dives deep into the lives of aquatic invertebrates – especially shrimp and decapod crustaceans – who make up the vast majority of animals on Earth, yet are given the least consideration in animal welfare.

It explores how human psychology dissociates from these animals: no facial expressions, cold-blooded, seemingly “foreign.” But as Jonathan Birch reminds us: ‘We need to be willing to take precautions, even for those animals who are very different from us.’

The film delves into the scientific capabilities of animals like shrimp, and their behavioural changes in certain situations, but also highlighting the fact that not all animals needs to act or think the same, to justify existence. SOURCE
