Angry animal liberation protesters storm Australian piggery over claims of mistreatment

This issue extends beyond animals who are used for food. We need to dismantle ideologies that have reduced animals to 'things'.

SOPHIE TANNO: ‘More than 100 animal liberation activists stormed a piggery following claims of animal mistreatment. The protesters put Glasshouse Country Farms, in Beerburrum, in lockdown on Saturday morning after they entered the pigs’ enclosure. The protest was a response to footage leaked by Animal Liberation Queensland (ALQ) from inside the farm… Activists say the leaked footage shows pigletes being thrown across the room and an adult pig being killed in a laneway.

According to Animal Liberation Queensland, the footage was reported to authorities who replied they were ‘unable to provide information regarding animal welfare complaints due to privacy laws.’ The activists can be seen donning T-shirts with the words ‘meat the victims’ during Sunday’s protest. A further 70 activists held a protest outside the farm while the lockdown took place inside… Activist Leah Doellinger said: “This issue extends beyond animals who are used for food. We need to dismantle ideologies that have reduced animals to ‘things'”.’ SOURCE…
