AAM: We’re sure about our vision to liberate animals, yet unsure how or when we’ll get there. Meanwhile, we continue to work in our own silos but rarely organize as a unified front. In this presentation, Robert Grillo presents his ideas for what underutilized strategic and organizational factors are needed to achieve results, based on the experience and study of other social movements. Understanding and applying what has served others well is essential.

Topics discussed include:
– the 8 stages of a social movement,
– the right activism for the right stages,
– Chenoweth’s 4 traits of successful movements,
– the radical-reformist spectrum and the radical flank effect,
– movement ecology and building solidarity toward the 3%,
– theory of change as blueprint for action, and
– speaking truth to power: the targeting of powerholders and *dominant intuitions as a means for building public consensus,
– forging systemic change via dominant intuitions

Robert Grillo is an activist, author and speaker for all species. He is also the founder and director of Free from Harm, a non profit dedicated to helping end animal exploitation. He founded Slaughter Free Chicago in 2018 which has now grown into a network called Slaughter Free Network.
