‘Hate it when their heads come off’: Workers caught kicking and throwing hens at Australia’s egg farm

Chickens were picked-up and slammed forcefully on the hard concrete floor several times by different men in the footage, who appear to be callously maiming the birds for fun.

ALISON BEVEGE: ‘Shocking scenes of animal cruelty have been revealed in secret recordings leaked by a whistleblower at one of Australia’s largest egg producers. Animal rights group Animal Liberation released the footage on Monday as part of a film about the gas culling of egg-layer chickens at the end of their useful life. The footage shows one worker kicking and stomping on a chick. Birds are picked up and slammed forcefully on the hard concrete floor several times by different men in the footage – some of whom appear to be callously maiming the birds for fun.

One worker throws a chicken into the air and bats it across the room with his hand while another tries to drop kick a defenceless bird. Another worker breaks a chicken’s neck while laughing about it as he shows off to his colleagues. ‘I hate it when their heads come off,’ one worker can be heard saying on the video. ‘Yeah it feels good, look,’ the other worker replies. He then breaks the chicken’s neck, throws it on the ground and laughs as its body jerks across the floor in fits. Oh you’re cruel,’ the other worker says. ‘Oh what are you doing pulling its f***ing head off for?’ another worker complains.

The video shows at least half a dozen workers cruelly mistreating chickens at Bridgewater Poultry farm in Victoria. Bridgewater once supplied eggs to major supermarket chains Coles and Woolworths, and sells under the labels Loddon Valley Eggs, Victorian Fresh Eggs and Country Fresh Eggs… Animal Liberation campaigner Rosko Osbourne said the footage was handed in to Animal Liberation by an anonymous whistleblower… Mr Osbourne said they could be anyone including people fresh out of prison who may enjoy violence that is normalised by the people around who assume that nobody will ever get caught. ‘It’s hard to say if it happens all the time,’ he said. ‘European and US footage is the same’.’  SOURCE…
