RUN, RABBIT, RUN: Large network of rabbit farms shuts down following animal rights protests

I have to be honest, the activists made the decision for me. It was also the sheer cost of security. I made the decision to give into their demands. We couldn’t fight them any more because they are too strong.

ANDREA SCHOLES: A rabbit farmer is closing his business following an animal rights protest. Phil Kerry, of T&S Nurseries, runs a network of rabbit farms including one at Rutland Water which was recently refused planning permission for a workers’ hut. Mr Kerry announced he is retiring following a protest by the campaign group Shut Down T&S Rabbits in Ancaster last week…

He said: “I was retiring next year anyway from rabbit farming but I have to be honest, the activists made the decision for me. It was also the sheer cost of security. “I made the decision to give into their demands. We couldn’t fight them any more because they are too strong”. SOURCE…

ELLIS KARRAN: Activists from animal rights group Shut Down T&S Rabbits have been busy over recent weeks hosting protests in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Rutland, calling for T&S Rabbit Farms to be shut down across the country. Shut Down T&S Rabbits says the rabbit breeding farm neglects the animals as well as “slaughtering” them for their fur and meat to be sold by the company…

Protestors want to raise awareness of the company owner’s ties with the rabbit farm, claiming: “Activists have blockaded Goldholme not because they are against the quarry, but because they want to raise awareness about the fact that Phill Kerry, the owner, also owns T&S Rabbits, a rabbit fur farm that was investigated throughout this year, with multiple rabbits dying from neglect.

“Activists want for Phil to release the rabbits to loving homes. Failing that, they want to make sure that Goldholme customers like Jewson and Travis Perkins are made aware of who they are making business with”. SOURCE…

ANDREA SCHOLES: The animal rights organisation PETA has welcomed the news…  Elisa Allen, vice president of programmes, said: “Animal advocates are jumping for joy over news that T&S Nurseries has read the writing on the wall and will soon be closing up shop – meaning no more rabbits will be bred and killed at its facilities”. “

On these farms, sensitive animals spend much of their lives confined to barren hutches, unable to socialise or explore. “Then, after enduring a miserable life, they’re hung upside down and their throats are slit so their dismembered body parts can be used for pâté, pies, and other products. STATEMENT FROM RABBIT FARM RESISTANCE UK:

FOR THE BUNNIES FREEDOM. FOR THE MOVEMENT; A NEW BEGINNING.

Yesterday, we saw the last T&S Rabbits farm shut down for good. A total of 202 rabbits were taken to safety, completely emptying the farm. It was an amazing surprise to see one of the missing Rutland 30 coming out of the farm at the very end! The team who caught each and every rabbit, put them in carriers and transported them to the gates did an incredibly hard job. Thank you to each and every one of you. Now, the next job is to ensure all rabbits get the medical attention they need and that the rescues and sanctuaries get their expenses covered.

To everybody else who has sent loving and encouraging words: the bunnies are free because of you. Each and every one of them are free because the grassroots movement fought hard, allowed diversity of tactics, was welcoming, supportive and caring to all comrades and knew, from within, that we would not give up until we won.

Please take that empowerment with you and start the fight again. This is far from over, animals are exploited in every corner of the world and you have the power to change it. We hope this victory is the spark that lights the fire for liberation. Remember, taking direct action is not waiting for others to do what you want to see done. Let’s make this world a little better one step at the time.

FOR THE ANIMALS, ALWAYS.

PS: please if you can, give generously and share the crowdfunder. The sanctuaries are going to need a lot of support for vet bills and care.”  SOURCE…
